VF Corporation hit by ransomware attack and data breach

VF Corporation, one of the world’s largest apparel and footwear companies, has disclosed a security incident that impacted its business operations and compromised its data.

The Colorado-based company, which owns 13 globally recognized brands, reported the cyberattack in a Form 8-K filing with the U.S. SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) on Friday, 18.

The apparel giant behind Supreme, Vans, and The North Face suffers operational disruptions and data theft.

According to the filing, VF detected unauthorized access on its network on December 13, 2023, and immediately initiated countermeasures to contain the attack.

However, the company said that some of its IT systems were encrypted by the threat actors, who also stole data from the company, including personal data.

“The threat actor disrupted the company’s business operations by encrypting some IT systems, and stole data from the company, including personal data,” VF stated.

The company did not specify what type of ransomware was used in the attack, nor did it reveal how many customers or employees were affected by the data breach.

VF said it is working with external experts and law enforcement agencies to investigate the incident and restore its systems as soon as possible.

The company also said it is implementing additional security measures to prevent future attacks and protect its data.

VF Corporation is a global leader in the apparel and footwear industry, with annual revenue of $11.6 billion and 35,000 employees.

The company’s portfolio includes iconic brands such as Supreme, Vans, Timberland, The North Face, Dickies, Eastpak, Kipling, Napapijri, AND1, JanSport, Icebreaker, Altra Running, and SmartWool.
