French police have arrested a malware developer linked with the Ragnar Locker ransomware gang and seized the group’s dark web sites. The arrest was made in collaboration with law enforcement agencies in other countries, including the United States.

French Police Seize Dark Web Sites of Ragnar Locker Ransomware Gang

In a statement, French police said that the arrested individual was a 28-year-old man who lived in the Paris region. The man is accused of developing malware used by the Ragnar Locker gang to encrypt victims’ files and demand payment in exchange for the decryption key.

Police also seized the Ragnar Locker gang’s dark websites, which were used to communicate with victims and negotiate ransom payments. The seizure of the dark websites is a major blow to the gang, as it will make it more difficult for them to operate.

The arrest of the Ragnar Locker ransomware developer is a significant victory for law enforcement. It shows that the authorities are committed to combating ransomware and that they are able to track down and arrest the perpetrators of these crimes.

The arrest of the Ragnar Locker ransomware developer is a positive step, but it is important to remember that ransomware attacks continue to rise. Organizations need to take steps to protect themselves from these attacks, and they should be prepared to respond to an attack if it does occur.

The Ragnar Locker ransomware gang is believed to be of Russian origin. The group has targeted a number of high-profile organizations in recent years.

In March 2022, the Ragnar Locker gang breached 52 critical infrastructure organizations. The attack caused significant disruption to critical infrastructure services, including water and wastewater treatment facilities, electricity providers, and transportation networks.

The arrest of the developer is a welcome development, but it is important to note that there are many other ransomware gangs operating today. Organizations need to remain vigilant and take steps to protect themselves from these attacks.
